Toddler gardening thyme

- Jean Ward

Airdrie MP Neil Gray dropped by to lend a hand and offer advice at a toddlers’ gardening club in Gartlea.

During his visit to the preschool Pitter Potter Thyme group in Gartlea community centre, Mr Gray met the parents and youngsters and learned about their challenges to improve its facilities.

He dug deep into their storage issues, both inside the venue and in the garden area outside, and has written to North Lanarkshire Council to find possible solutions to their problems.

The green-fingered MP also supported the club’s recent bingo night, which raised in excess of £600, by donating prizes for their raffle.

Mr Gray said: “Groups like Pitter Potter Thyme, which are run by parents, are invaluable for the development of our children.

“This club places a special emphasis on learning about how plants and vegetables grow and the kids get to sample their produce when it is harvested.

“I am so glad that the prize bingo went well and the club can now look to growing more goodies for the children to learn about.”

Pitter Potter Thymes’ Leann Campbell added: “We were very thankful to Neil for coming to Pitter Potter Thyme and taking part in some gardening by helping with our potatoes; the children loved it.

“We are also grateful for his help in continuing to look for funding and for donating a raffle prize.”
