Councillor­s’ surgeries

Airdrie North representa­tive Tommy Morgan, of Labour, will hold a surgery on Saturday, in the community hall at 12 noon. Ward colleague Sophia Coyle of the SNP will hold her surgery at the same venue on Wednesday, June 27, from 6pm to 6.30pm.

Children’s outing

held on June 9 was a success. Everyone who attended enjoyed a good day of sunshine. The committee thank all involved for their support.

Miners’ home

Applicatio­ns for use of the holiday home in Culross, Fife, are open to miners, their families and beneficiar­ies. The home is open from now until August; call 01383 880307 to register interest.

Bingo night

will take place in the Orange hall on Sundays, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker will be drawn at 8.25pm. Tickets are on sale from committee members costing £1. To support the Lucky Joker draw, please contact the committee.

Back Brae Gospel Hall

The breaking of the bread takes place on Sunday at 11am. Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Stanrigg miners’ memorial

is open to anyone who wishes to visit the site. July 9 will be 100th anniversar­y of the tragic disaster and the retired miners’ branch committee will hold a memorial service on Sunday, July 8, at 2pm; all are welcome to pay their respects to the 19 miners. A service will be conducted by Rev William Jackson of Greengairs Church and the Rev Father Thomas Trench of St David’s Church in Plains. Croy Silver Band will supply the music, councillor­s William Tolan and Tommy Morgan will represent North Lanarkshir­e Council and Nicky Wilson the National Union of Mine Workers. After the service tea will be served in St David’s Church hall in Plains.

Da Capo music group

meet on Mondays from 6pm to 9pm in the Orange hall on Baillies Lane. Anyone who would like to play the orchestral flute and drums is welcome to attend the group; contact John on 07525 064303.

Practice takes place on Tuesdays from 7pm to 9pm in the social club. New flute and drum learners are welcome to attend; call John on 07525 064303 for further details.
