Pals with the
Charity hike takes them to all 42 senior football grounds in Scotland
The lyrics to one of Scottish football’s most popular songs state: “We’ll be coming down the road”.
Well, that was certainly the case for Coatbridge pals Chris Sayle and Siobhan Cunning, who completed a mammoth 856- mile trek around every football ground in Scotland – in just 15 days – to raise money for charity.
The pair, both aged 37, took on the gruelling challenge earlier this month and set a target to raise £5000 for the Beatson Lanarkshire and Ronald McDonald House charities.
But after making their way from Dingwall to Stranraer, Berwick to Dundee and everywhere else in between, the dynamic duo managed to triple their target – despite Chris tackling the majority of the journey with a broken bone in his foot.
Thrilled with their fantastic £15,000 total, Chris told the Advertiser: “It feels quite surreal looking back on it.
“Nine months of planning went into this which included training, logistics and gaining sponsorship.
“Managing to raise three times what we planned is phenomenal and makes all the aches and pain worthwhile.”
Fittingly, Chris and Siobhan finished their epic adventure at Cliftonhill, where around 100 people came along to lend their support and walk the final stretch with them.
Chris admitted: “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to replicate the joy and relief of seeing Cliftonhill when we walked around the corner.
“The club were great and opened up the ground for us – they probably got a bigger crowd than they do on
