CHARITY EFFORT Pupils on the run to raise Beatson funds

Four-figure donation

Generous kids from a Glenboig school set a pulsating pace as they raised an incredible £3500 for the Beatson Cancer Charity through sponsored runs.

Every year the Our Lady & St Joseph’s Primary pupils prepare presentations on local charities, then vote on the one they want to fundraise for over the next 12 months.

The Beatson was their chosen charity for 2018 and Primary Seven youngsters organised three sponsored runs to kick off the school’s health week.

P1- 3 children ran 1km, P4- 5 completed 3km and P6-7 did a 5km run.

There was also a bake sale on the day, which the charity’s mascot Bella Beatson and Partick Thistle football club mascot Kingsley attended.

Ellen M. Turnbull, Our Lady & St Joseph’s head teacher, said: “As ever, I am immensely proud of the whole school community for everything they have achieved through organising and participating in this event.

“Pupils and staff have family members fighting cancer, or have lost loved ones to it, and so it was a charity close to the hearts of many here at Our Lady and St Joseph’s.

“The response to the event was phenomenal and I am so grateful to everyone who donated their time and their money to support us.

“We hope that this money will go towards bringing people real comfort and support in their time of need.”

Calum McNair, Beatson’s schools and community engagement fundraiser, added: “This is a fantastic amount raised and we are delighted to have been chosen by the pupils as their charity for this year.

“All the money raised will go towards investing in a better future for cancer patients.”
