- Ian Bunting

Police recovered £106,000 worth of drugs following raids on properties in Moodiesburn and Chryston.

Officers executed warrants on the two homes last Wednesday afternoon, with two men arrested in connection with the incidents.

At 3.30pm, police attended a property on Bothlyn Road in Chryston, where they found a number of tablets, thought to be valium, cannabis resin, cocaine and a substance believed to be amphetamine.

A 51-year-old man was arrested, charged with various drugs offences and appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court the following day.

Later on June 27, at around 5.30pm, officers raided an address in Arran Lane, Moodiesburn, where cannabis plants, a number of tablets – again believed to be valium – and a substance thought to be amphetamine were seized.

They then arrested a 40-year-old man who again was charged with various drugs offences and ended up in the dock a day later.

Inspector Philip Rose of Cumbernauld police said: “Police Scotland is committed to reducing the tragic impact of drugs on individuals, families and communities in Scotland and information from members of the public is absolutely vital in our efforts to do this.

“As a result of the support of the community, we have managed to take a significant haul of drugs off the streets.

“Those who supply drugs have absolutely no place in our community and through partnership working and with the support of local communities, we will do everything we can identify their criminal activities and bring them to justice in the aim of making Scotland a safer place.
