Fighting fit primary school youngsters in Calderbank will soon be able to channel their inner Mo Farahs and Eilidh Doyles after work started on fantastic new sports facilities.
The impressive multi-purpose pitch and four-lane running track, which are costing more than £200,000, will replace the disused ash park on the village’s Park Road.
Calderbank and Corpus Christi primaries will have priority use of the new facilities during the school day but they will be free to use for sporty locals outwith this time.
Councillor Jim Logue, leader of North Lanarkshire Council, said: “The new facility will benefit people of all ages living in Calderbank.
“In particular, it will provide both primary schools with added opportunities for children to enhance their physical health and wellbeing.
“It’s a large investment in the community and will revive the disused ash park on Park Road.
“There has been a lot of planning put into the delivery of this new, free-to-use, facility and I wish to thank everyone involved.
“I’m sure it will become a much-loved community asset when it opens in a few weeks’ time.”
Most of the money funding the eyecatching project is coming from Transport Scotland, with the remainder through the council’s Local Development Programme.
There have been a number of other organisations involved in bringing the project to fruition, including SportScotland, the New Calderbank Regeneration Group and Calderbank Environmental Group.
