Townhead

Music club People can learn to play musical instrument­s including guitar and fiddle at St Bartholome­w’s Church hall on Fridays from 8pm to 9.30pm. Lessons are followed by a folk music session until midnight, with a bar also available.

Craft group meets at Townhead Parish Church on Mondays from 9.30am to 12pm. All are welcome.

Chapelhall

Tenants and residents will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, July 11, at 7pm in the senior citizens’ centre. Future gatherings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month, at the same time and venue on Lauchope Street.

Petersburn

Four Isles events A boxing club, for those aged eight and over, runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6pm to 8pm at the community centre. The venue also hosts an over-50s group on Mondays from 12 noon until 2pm, a toddlers’ group for kids from birth to three years on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am until 12 noon, and prize bingo on Tuesday nights from 7pm to 9pm. Greengairs

Miners’ home Applicatio­ns for use of the holiday home in Culross, Fife, are open to miners, their families and beneficiar­ies. The home is open from now until August; call 01383 880307 to register interest.

Drop-in cafe will take place on Tuesday, July 17, at Greengairs Parish Church hall. It runs from 1pm to 3.30pm and is open to all to enjoy tea, coffee and home baking.

Back Brae Gospel Hall The breaking of the bread takes place on Sunday at 11am. Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm. Stanrigg miners’ memorial is open to anyone who wishes to visit the site. This Saturday will be 100th anniversar­y of the tragic disaster and the retired miners’ branch committee will hold a memorial service on Sunday at 2pm; all are welcome to pay their respects to the 19 miners. A service will be conducted by Rev William Jackson of Greengairs Church and the Rev Father Thomas Trench of St David’s Church in Plains. Croy Silver Band will supply the music, councillor­s William Doolan and Tommy Morgan will represent North Lanarkshir­e Council and Nicky Wilson the National Union of Mine Workers. After the service, tea will be served in St David’s Church hall in Plains. Organisers of the memorial service wish to thank Albert Bartlett’s and the council for helping to repair and clean up the monument ahead of this Sunday’s event; they have hailed both for making the memorial “look absolutely brilliant”. Da Capo music group meet on Mondays from 6pm to 9pm in the Orange hall on Baillies Lane. Brigade events The Girls’ Brigade meet in the church hall on Monday evenings; all girls welcome. The Boys’ Brigade meet in the same venue on Wednesday evenings, with Anchor Boys taking place followed by Junior section; primary school-aged boys are invited to attend. After 9’Ers activity group meets on Fridays from 1pm to 3pm in the community centre. Activities include arts and crafts, fitness and cooking. The weekly cost is £1.50, which includes tea and snacks.

1st Clyde Scouts meet on Wednes- days at the St David’s and Plains primary schools campus. Beavers, for six- to eight-year-olds, meet from 6pm; Cubs, for ages eight to 10, meet from 6.45pm; and Scouts at 7pm. Creative writing group meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month at Chapelside centre on Black Street, from 12pm to 2pm. The group is looking for members and welcomes all interested in writing “in a diverse range of genres, including poetry, short stories and local history”.

@home Youth Centre has a purpose-built recording studio which is available every Friday from 5pm to 10pm with staff on hand to help record and mix tracks.
