Airdrie close in on title
Drumpellier’s Kenny McLean says the title isn’t on his mind despite an impressive win over Colville Park which kept their faint title hopes alive.
Drumpellier overcame their counterparts 6-4 in the Thursday sunshine last week, meaning they now only trail Monklands rivals Airdrie by four points.
However, even if Airdrie lose their last game and finish level on points with any of their competitors, a remarkable turnaround in points difference will be required to overcome the deficit.
McLean told the Advertiser: “Although we’re tied second our priority is still to stay up.
“We need to play Strathaven this week and then Hamilton on the 12th.
“If we win one of them it means we’re safe.
“If we win the two of them it means we could finish on the same points as Airdrie, although the current points difference is huge.”
Airdrie last week beat Strathaven 7.5-2.5 at their home course to edge nearer to the championship.
They play Colville Park at home in their remaining fixture while Colville, who are also in the hunt, have also still to play Hamilton.
McLean continued:“We can catch Airdrie on points but the difference is huge.
“We have Strathaven away on Wednesday and that match only is our focus.”
Drumpellier also held their 10th anniversary Pro-Am at the weekend, in glorious sunshine at Coatbridge Parkland golf course.
Thirty-one teams were joined by the cream of golfers from the Scottish PGA “Tartan Tour”, including two-time European Tour winner Alistair Forsyth and former PGA champion Andy Oldcorn.
Neil Fenwick picked up the top prize of £1300 with a score of 66, which is five-under-par.
The club will donate money raised from the Pro-Am dinner and tournament to local charities.
