Home is where the heart is for Hue & Cry

Town hall concert

- Andrew Bargh

Hue and Cry can’t wait for their musical homecoming.

The band, fronted by brothers Pat and Greg Kane, recently completed their 16th studio album in a career that has taken them all over the world.

But there’s no place like home and the pair are counting down the days to their scheduled performance at Airdrie Town Hall in November, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their critically acclaimed album, Remote.

Speaking exclusively to the Advertiser, singer Pat enthused: “We love Airdrie town hall. It’s a beautiful place with great acoustics and a crazy audience.

“We’ll be playing the Remote album the full way through to celebrate its 30th year.

“That album is probably what we’re best-known for. We don’t have a problem playing these songs again and again because we’re incredibly proud of them.”

Pat admits the band’s roots play a big part in their songwriting.

And despite critical and chart success, he revealed he and Greg aren’t the most well-known of his family members locally.

He continued: “I go back to Coatbridge fairly regularly and love the walk down Drumpellier to my mum’s.

“She was a midwife for 40 years and delivered thousands of babies and is more famous in Coatbridge than we are. It’s quite nice to be known as May Kane’s son rather than half of Hue and Cry.”

Pat added: “We always kept our feet on the ground and remembered our roots – mum wouldn’t let us forget them.

“She’s 85 but as sharp as a tack. She used to joke and ask us when we’d be getting a ‘proper job’.

Our upbringing is a huge factor in all we do. Coatbridge is a place with amazing history and somewhere I love going back to.”
