Ramblers set for Goatfell walk

-

Monklands Ramblers will climb one of the most scenic peaks in the country this weekend.

The group will take the trip across the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Arran to tackle Goat Fell.

The hill, which is an 874m ascent, is described as a “pyramidal peak and a magnificent viewpoint”.

The eight-mile round trip will be led by David Dunn and is graded at a difficult ‘A’ level.

The group will leave Airdrie from 8am in order to make the 9.45am ferry form Ardrossan to Broddick.

After the ramble, it should arrive back in Ardrossan at 8.15pm after leaving at 7.20pm.

The club have agreed to subsidise transport costs with a combined £15 fare which includes the bus and ferry.

While that walk takes place, a second group of Monklands Ramblers will trek elsewhere around the island.

Christine McMahon will lead the walk from Sannox to Lochranza in a trek which is graded a much easier C+.

It is slightly longer at 10 miles but does not have the same ascent as the Goat Fell peak.

The next midweek walk will take place on August 15 as David Dunn again leads a ramble from Drumpellier to Hogganfield Loch, and back.

The 11-mile trip is graded at a C level and is an afternoon walk.
