Dancers celebrate

NC dance kids are streets ahead of rivals

- Jean Ward

A group of young Coatbridge dancers proved they were streets ahead to take home a haul of trophies and medals in a prestigious street dance competition.

The talented Kraze kids, from the NC school of dance, who are based at the Fountain business centre, wowed the judges with their slick freestyle routines at the finals of the UDO Scottish street dance championships, held in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, and were crowned Scottish champions.

The competition, which was the penultimate leg of the prestigious UK dance circuit, attracted thousands of young hopefuls from studios near and far.

And the young dance divas were “over the moon” to scoop first place in the under-eights category and secure their place in next month’s hotly contested UDO world championships at Glasgow’s SEC.

This followed their storming success earlier this year at the British championships in Blackpool’s world famous Tower venue, where they again achieved the top spot.

Not to be outdone by the youngsters, the resilieNCE troupe strutted their stuff and snapped up second place in the 12s and under, with vengeaNCE hot on their heels in fifth in the 16s and under category.

Owner and choreographer, Nadine Creaney, is thrilled with the ongoing achievements of her amazing young protégés, telling the Advertiser: “I’m so proud of all of my teams. “But the mums were more excited than the kids. “Last year the Kraze team were in the beginners’ level and didn’t manage to make the top five.

“They have worked so hard to achieve this. They have done brilliantly.”

The Monklands starlets outshone thousands of their rivals, from both Scotland and the UK, to secure their qualifying place in the exclusive UDO world street dance championships, which will be hosted at the SEC in August.

Nadine explained: “The world championships is a four-day event and includes duos, solos and teams.

“We will be training hard over the next few weeks and throughout the summer, making sure that we’re ready to face the tough competition.”
