Man blamed whisky for attack on his partner Thief stole purse at police station

-

A Gartcosh man who pinned his partner against a wall and punched her on the head has been given a fresh court order after breaching his previous one.

Marcus Stevenson, 41, pled guilty to the offence, which took place in Moodiesburn’s Auchengeich Gardens on December 4 last year.

During his sentencing at Airdrie Sheriff Court back in February the procurator fiscal described Woodlands Avenue resident Stevenson’s behaviour on the day of the offence.

He said: “The accused attended a property with the witness.

“On arrival they made a cup of tea and tidied up before beginning to consume alcohol, including whisky and rum.

“The accused became aggressive to the female witness and she asked him to leave several times.

“However, he continued to refuse.

“As she asked him again he grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against a wall.

“He continued to hold her throat and then punched her on the head.

“She managed to push him away and break free and another witness in the house called police.”

Defence solicitor Darran Khorasani blamed alcohol for Stevenson’s aggressive conduct, telling the court: “My client doesn’t cope well when drinking spirits.

“This is the first incident of this type that he’s been involved with regarding the victim.”

Stevenson was sentenced to a community payback order with 15 months’ supervision and 135 hours of unpaid work by Sheriff Frank Pieri.

But he had to appear in front of Sheriff Pieri again last week, when he owned up to breaching his order.

The sheriff told Stevenson he was revoking the punishment and applying a new order, which will see Stevenson under supervision for the next year.

The sheriff added: “I will also order a review of this new community payback order in a month’s time to check on your progress.”

Stevenson’s order review was then scheduled for September 17. A Greenend woman stole a purse from Coatbridge police station while under arrest.

She also stole from three stores in her home town and bought goods with someone else’s bank card.

Emma Baillie admitted paying for goods at two Coatbridge Main Street stores with a stolen bank card on January 19.

The 22-year-old bought perfume costing £ 19.98 from JE Robertson pharmacy and goods worth £13.10 from Poundland.

While under arrest at Coatbridge police office later that day she took a purse and its contents.

On February 23 Baillie stole jewellery and handbags from Matalan, clothing, jewellery, fragrance and cosmetics from Next and accessories from TK Maxx, all at Faraday Retail Park.

She pled guilty to all six offences and was due to be sentenced at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week.

But her lawyer, Paul Belardo told the court background reports were not availabe.

Sheriff Frank Pieri continued proceedings until August 29 for the reports.

On that date Baillie will also be sentenced for breaching bail conditions banning her from Jackson Court.

Baillie entered the Coatbridge flats on July 28.

He grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against a wall then punched her on the head
