Speaking out over hospital move plan
Dear Editor, There should be an outcry if Monklands Hospital is moved [to Gartcosh: Advertiser, July 26].
They have spent millions over the past few years to bring in new theatres, outside buildings for treatment areas, new car parks and a new cancer building.
This was taxpayers’ money which was used, yet now [the NHS Lanarkshire proposal is] to move Monklands Hospital to another area.
Airdrie & Shotts MSP Alex Neil and his SNP pals should be hanging their heads in shame.
People of the area should use their voices now [in the public consultation], before it is too late. Graham Anderson, via email
Support for family
Dear Editor, Well done to all of the people who have contributed to the fundraisers held in support of Alesha MacPhail’s family.
I cannot imagine how difficult a time Alesha’s family have endured since the schoolgirl’s death; it must be absolutely horrendous.
But hopefully seeing so many people come forward in a show of support to donate funds in her memory will give the family a little boost.
This show of support is a testament to the generosity and thoughtfulness of the people of Monklands.
I would also like to pass on my deepest condolences to Alesha’s family.

Funding for good cause Dear Editor,
Three neighbours in Baillieston were celebrating last month as they each won £1000 playing the People’s Postcode Lottery.
While the prizes will make a big difference to the Whirlow Road neighbours, the latest lottery draw is having an even bigger impact more than 5000 miles away.
People’s Postcode Lottery players have now raised more than £4.5 million for Plan International UK, helping to improve the lives of some of the poorest and most marginalised young people in sub-Saharan Africa.
From supporting brave girls facing child marriage in Tanzania, to protecting refugee children separated from their families while fleeing conflict in South Sudan, players in Baillieston and across Scotland are making a huge difference to those most affected by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination.
Plan International UK is a charity close to my heart, so I want to say a big thank you to Advertiser readers for helping these young people build better futures for themselves.
