Charity founder Sandra Brown is among the nominees at next week’s Scottish women’s awards.

The originator of the Ai rdrie- based Mo i ra Anderson Foundation is one of six shortlisted finalists in the ceremony’s “services to charity and third sector” category.

Sandra set up the organisation, which works to support survivors of childhood sexual abuse, nearly two decades ago.

Now she is among a trio of Monklands nominees – alongside Lucy Renaut of Fisher Services in Coatbridge who is among 10 nominees for services to accounting and finance; and Eurocentral-based charity Enable, which is among the eight shortlisted entrants in the social leader section.

Wi n n e r s w i l l be announced at a ceremony in Glasgow next Wednesday – with the event supporting charity partner Smart Works, which provides women with the attire, advice, training and confidence needed to succeed at work.

The second annual women’s awards are described as a “celebration of female role models” which aim to “acknowledge and celebrate achievements [and] embody the strength, grit and determination of women, honouring those who continue to thrive”.

Irfan Younis, the chief executive of awards organisers Creative Oceanic, said: “We’re very happy to see the huge engagement of the public who have voted to give deserved recognition.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming inspirational women who have gone above and beyond to achieve their goals.” ONCE YOU GET BEHIND THE WHEEL YOU WON’T WANT TO BE ANYWHERE ELSE.
