NATIONAL ISSUE MP backs immigration support campaign
Pledge to constituents
Hugh Gaffney has come out in support of the campaign by Global Justice Now and Migrants Organise calling on MPs to pledge to provide support and assistance to their constituents without fear of being referred to immigration enforcement.
The Coatbridge MP has revealed he “will never report anyone to immigration enforcement” and outlined his commitment to his surgeries being a “safe place” for those seeking help with immigration cases.
Mr Gaffney said: “As an MP, I pledge to represent and advocate for all people living in Coatbridge and Chryston, irrespective of their immigration status.
“I strongly encourage my constituents to seek my advice on any cases relating to immigration issues.
“My constituents should be assured that my surgeries will be safe places where advice can be sought without fear of referral to the Home Office for immigration enforcement.
“I will never report anyone to immigration enforcement and ensure my office handles personal information in a sensitive manner to avoid this from happening.”
Mr Gaffney added: “I believe the campaign is vital to ensure that all communities across the United Kingdom know that their MPs are available to support them on immigration cases without the risk of being referred to immigration enforcement.
“I would urge all of my parliamentary colleagues across North Lanarkshire to sign the pledge so that local people know their MPs are able and willing to support them with any case, irrespective of their immigration status.”
