Night at the museum for amateur detectives

Mystery fundraiser

- Ian Bunting

Super sleuths donned their finest thinking caps to put Poirot and Miss Marple to shame during a charity murder-mystery night.

Members of the community turned out in large numbers to Summerlee museum’s “Murder in the Museum” event, part of the CultureNL Library Take Over festival, to support local library services and raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The wickedly fun night asked budding detectives to interview potential suspects to find out who was murdered as part of the event.

Colourful suspects included Dracula, Mary Poppins and even the Mad Hatter and with the atmospheric location, a great time was had by all.

Participant Maureen Young, said: ”It was an absolutely fantastic event organised by libraries; I didn’t know that libraries were involved in so much.

“It was a wonderful way to raise money for such a worthwhile service.”

Proceeds were donated to Macmillan Cancer Support and those involved heard about some of the great work being carried out by the charity’s Lanarkshire project, including the new Cancer Information and Support Service recently launched in Coatbridge library by the town’s MSP, Fulton MacGregor.

Macmillan Lanarkshire project manager, Craig Tobin, said: “It’s thanks to the hard work and dedication of our supporters in Lanarkshire, who put on events like this and raise money for us, that we are able to provide such vital services and we’re incredibly grateful for their continued support.”
