Happy family wins top title

Joy at Glasgow business awards

- Judith Tonner

Muirhead butchers S Collins and Son won the title of “family business of the year” at the Glasgow business awards.

Based at Lindsaybeg Road, the business is now run by the third generation of the same family, having been established in 1955 by Stewart Collins.

The company emerged victorious ahead of five other firms in the category at the awards ceremony, hosted by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.

Business partner Fraser Collins said: “Family is very important to us – the business was established by my grandfather, later run by my father, and is now owned and run by my brother and myself.

“It’s been in the family for 60 years and that’s a testament to the team’s hard work, dedication and ethos; we’re delighted to win.

“A huge thank you goes to our valued customers for their contribution to our success, as we would not be here without their support.”

Nearly 700 guests attended the city’s 21st annual business awards, with Glasgow Chamber chief executive Stuart Patrick adding his “huge congratulations for [ the firm’s] deserved win”.

He added: “The business has shown outstanding capacity to grow and expand while retaining the trademark quality that it was originally known and respected for three generations ago.”
