Two fireworks displays to thrill residents

- Judith Tonner

Monklands will host two official fireworks displays – each taking place on Sunday, November 4, ahead of bonfire night.

Events will be held at Airdrie leisure centre in Rawyards and at Dunbeth Park in Coatbridge, both starting at 7.30pm.

Glow-in-the-dark wristbands for youngsters will be available to help in reuniting parents and children if they become separated.

Visitors to the Airdrie event are being “advised to arrive early to secure a [parking] space”at Motherwell Street and Waverley Drive; while no on-site parking is available at Dunbeth Park.

North Lanarkshire Council executive director Robert Steenson said:“Our free events are a great way to enjoy Guy Fawkes night safely with some of the best fireworks displays in the area.

“They’re organised in partnership with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, which recommends that people attend organised fireworks displays – and we’re encouraging residents to come along to one of our events for a fun, safe, family night out.”

A further event will then take place at Strathclyde Park in Motherwell on November 5, with the bonfire being lit at 6.45pm and fireworks starting at 7.30pm. There will also be a funfair and entertainment from X Factor semi-finalists The Cutkelvins.
