Plains Primary School donate harvest assembly foodstuffs
Plains Primary School celebrated its annual harvest assembly by making a sizeable donation to Airdrie Foodbank.
Pupils, parents and friends of the village’s school demonstrated their kindness by handing over food items and toiletries to support the hungry.
The assembly was led by local pastor Graeme Paterson and items from the programme included Primary One and Two youngsters singing about apples and P6 delivering a presentation on how much fresh food had been harvested, weighed and donated to the foodbank.
P4-7 pupils were responsible for collecting the huge harvest from stock grown at the Plains community allotments.
Guests then heard from Primary Six children how much the warm summer weather had resulted in such a large amount of products grown.
A Plains Primary spokesperson said: “The school has been donating fresh food items to the foodbank since returning in August, as and when the produce has been ready.
“The harvest assembly was an opportunity to donate their final harvest from the allotment and show how much food had been donated in total.
“Representatives from Airdrie Foodbank were on hand and warmly received the donations, before giving pupils facts and figures on how many local families and children were benefiting from the donations.”
