Stone is stunning but Workmens draw

Gary brings Lakeside form to league

- Andrew Bargh

Former league singles champion Gary Stone is tearing up the district with his form since signing up with The Post of Calderbank.

The former Scottish internationalist, Scottish master, world federation singles champion and PDC tour card holder had a good run in the Lakeside world qualifiers, losing out in the last eight to Adam Neale Smith, who is the current Winmau world master.

Stone had a terrific run in that event but was beaten by world number one Glen Durrant in the last 16.

He continued his form when the Post visited Airdrie to take on Workmens B, rattling in three 180s on the night and winning an exciting encounter against Stevie Carson in 18 and 19 darts.

Lee Pearson also had a 180 for The Post while teammate Martin Moulds secured a great 12-darter and a 115 checkout.

The Post led 6-4 with two matches remaining but Cammy Reynolds and Scott Gibb both won to mean the match ended in a draw.

A Graham Anderson 15-darter put the Horseshoe on course for a good victory against the Eagle, who had only Bill Brown to show any resistance against the league leaders.

The Swan ran out easy winners at home to The Wilson Arms.

Alex Gordon had an 18-dart win for the hosts while Chris Gordon arrowed a consolation 180 for Wilsons.

The West End Bar made sure of both points against the Boarshead but the latter will be regretting missed doubles and should have taken a point at least from the match.

The Bank Club held on at home to The Clansman in a tight affair.

The visitors trailed for most of the game but came up with a late rally which nearly saw the points shared.

But the Bank held tough and saw the tie through for the two points.

The Barnyard were favourites to take both points at home against lowly Workmens A.

However, a fine 16-dart win from Rab McFadyean helped the visitors to a share of the spoils. Results: Horseshoe 10 The Eagle 2, The Swan 10 Wilson Arms 2, West End Bar 8 Boarshead 4, Bank Club 7 Clansman 5, Workmens 6, The Post 6, Barnyard 6 Workmens A 6.

Next fixtures on Monday, October 22.
