Busy junction work would be welcomed by readers

-

Dozens of Advertiser Facebook readers have had their say on proposals submitted to improve a congested and difficult junction on a busy Airdrie road.

The plan would see Craigneuk Avenue’s junction with Carlisle Road being moved by rebuilding the path of the road on part of the current parkland space.

Gary Trench welcomed the idea: “This has been long needed. Between heavy traffic and inconsiderate drivers, it’s a complete nightmare to get out of South Biggar Road or Craigneuk Avenue.”

Robert Anthony Frederick agreed: “As someone who has campaigned about both junctions, and part of a report submitted to the council 20 years ago for the need for upgrading of Carlisle Road, it’s not before time!”

Ginny Virginia Reid said:“The two junctions badly need improved; both are putting lives in danger.”

A view backed by Yvonne McQueen: “It’s long overdue; this junction is horrendous and a danger to life.”

Fiona Abbott added: “Surprised no one’s been killed; it’s a nightmare trying to get to work.”

Sharon Lawson posted: “Yes! – this has been a long time coming.”

Paul McGowan highlighted another traffic black spot: “The junction at Petersburn Road is worse; can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to get out into Carlisle Road – a nightmare junction.”

Caroline Buchan opined: “It is an awful junction. People pull out in front of you going left from that road while your doing 40 and they are going at a snail’s pace.”

Meanwhile, hearty and well-earned praise came the way of Bargeddie nurse Kirstin Cross after she raised nearly £1000 for the Maggie’s Centre and a Crohn’s disease charity.

Kirstin got 25 inches of her lovely long brunette locks chopped off – the first time in nearly two decades her hair had been snipped – which she donated to the Little Princess Trust.

Aileen Cunningham hailed the nurse’s generosity: “Kirstin you’re a star.”

Jane Cumming added: “Well done Kirstin.”

Gemma Jones commented: “What a great gesture by Kirstin; it was brave of her to get so much of her hair cut off and her new look is great.”

Agnes McGuire said: “Well done Kirstin.”

Kerry Hunter posted: “Fabulous stuff Kirstin.”
