Hometown gig

Win tickets to comedian’s town hall show

- Ian Bunting

Beloved Airdrie funnyman Patrick Rolink is bringing his unique brand of cracking comedy to his home town next month – and the Advertiser is offering lucky readers the chance to win two pairs of tickets to the muchanticipated gig.

The popular performer will have audience members at Sir John Wilson town hall rolling in the aisles as he shares tales of his time growing up in Thrashbush with his “A Boy from the Bush” show.

The November 9 gig will not only have Patrick joking and jesting on home turf, but see him share the stage with his daughter Marina.

The talented singer is supporting her dad with a musical performance, with Patrick delighted to turn the night into a real family affair.

He said: “Other than charity events, this will be the first time Marina and I have performed on the same bill and I am very excited about it.

“She’s a fantastic singer and it will be an honour to share a stage with her at the town hall.”

Patrick gave Advertiser readers a taste of what they can expect from his upcoming gig, revealing: “It’s all about my time growing up in Thrashbush and tales of the travels of my youth.

“It was a different world back then, when childish pranks ruled the roost and, in your late teens, you’d have a wee drink in the park before heading off to the Double A pub in Airdrie town centre.

“I will also share a few stories of my time working at Albion Rovers, many of which are pretty unbelievable.

“It will get pretty modern too as I touch on things like the state of the traffic at Airdrie Cross – or, as I like to call it, the Bermuda Triangle!”

Patrick added: “You can’t beat performing in your home town; the local response is always great and people really react to stories about places they know.

“Airdrie town hall is a superb venue to perform in; this will be my sixth show there and it never loses its sense of history and grandeur.

“Ticket sales have been going really well and I’ve had a lot of people contacting me on Facebook, and coming up to me on the street – many of whom have never seen me perform before – saying they are attending the show.

“It will be superb to see them, and as many local people as possible, in the audience.”

Patrick has kindly offered to supply two pairs of tickets to his “A Boy from the Bush” show to lucky Advertiser readers.

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is answer the following question: What is Patrick’s daughter’s name? – (A) Marina, (B) Mary or (C) Morag?

Readers can send their answers, along with their name, where they are from and a contact telephone number, by post to Patrick Rolink competition, Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser, One Central Quay, Glasgow, G3 8DA, or by email to ian. bunting@reachplc.com .

The closing date is next Friday, November 2; usual Reach competition rules apply and the editor’s decision is final.

“A Boy from the Bush” starts at 8pm on Friday, November 9, and there are still a few tickets available from the box office on 01698 403120.
