Close your eyes and imagine the magic as the Airdrie and Coatbridge Amateur Operatic Society draw back the curtain on their next sensational stage show.

The team of multi- skilled performers have announced they will be “one of the few lucky clubs” to present their adaptation of hit stage musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Though the Monklands’ organisation’s take on the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice classic isn’t coming to Airdrie town hall until March next year, tickets for the extravaganza went on sale this week.

Any dream will do for the society cast as their rigorous rehearsal programme is already off and running.

A society spokesperson gave the Advertiser a flavour of what musical fans can expect from the production, saying: “One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a reimagining of the biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, 11 brothers and the coat of many colours.

“Told entirely through song with the help of a main character, Narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph.

“After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife.

“While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and soon finds himself in front of the mighty, but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh.”

The society’s Joseph adaptation hits the town hall stage from March 12-16 next year.
