New gym opens on nightclub site
You’d do well to recall a more popular place in Coatbridge than the old Universe nightclub in years gone by.
But gym owner Steven Morley is hoping to bring back the masses to the Coatdyke premises after 13 years of it lying derelict.
And instead of alcohol, dancing and a hangover, customers will be experiencing state of the art equipment in Coatbridge’s newest gym.
New Age Fitness opened its doors last week after a massive 11- month rebuilding job that has been done from scratch.
According to Steven, the brand-new gym located at Coatdyke industrial estate offers “premium quality at a budget price”.
He said: “We’ve had a gym in Hamilton since 2014 and its been a huge success.
“We looked at Coatbridge as an area to expand into and came across the old Universe nightclub.
“It ’ s been a huge renovation project and we had to strip the building right back to the bones.
“We’re really delighted with it though and it’s a fantastic facility.”
He continued: “We provide a premium fitness club at a budget price.
“All members get free fitness programmes which are personalised to their goals.
“We’re big on customer service and don’t want our members feeling like they’re just a number.
“We have a full range of cardio equipment including treadmills, bikes and crosstrainers.
“We have a functional fitness area with curve treadmills, tyre flipping and assault bikes.
“We have 40 classes a week and a dedicated studio where body attack and body pump takes place.
“Of course we have top of the range weight lifting equipment too.
“It’s a club for all here and we want to cater for anyone who wants to join.”
On taking over the iconic local premises, Steven added: “There is a lot of history here.
“I’ve spoken to a lot of people who have fond memories of the place.
“We’ve kept the old staircase so there is a part of yesteryear left in the building, but there’s a huge difference now.”
