Strictly kids glide into dance final
An Airdrie schoolgirl aims to “keep on dancing” after being selected for the final of the Strictly Kids competition.
Hannah McMahon, 12, from Cairnhill, was in a spin after being picked to take part in the top event.
More than 600 young hopefuls auditioned and to secure her place in the final, Hannah wowed judges with a range of styles, including cheer, hip hop, latin and ballroom.
And following a further audition, Hannah was introduced to her dance partner, 12-year-old Ryan McBride from Glasgow.
Hannah, who had never danced with a male partner before, was thrilled to be paired with Ryan.
And her delighted mum, Donna, told the Advertiser: “Hannah has worked really hard and we are so proud that she has made it through to the final.
“Along with Ryan they’ve been given the challenge of dancing the quickstep, which is new for both of them.
“Their training is well underway and what they have achieved so far is amazing.”
The lightfooted pair are “over the moon” to have successfully made it through to the final stage of the contest.
And as well as mastering their intricate ballroom steps, Hannah and Ryan will also perform a group dance, along with the other couples in the glittering finale on December 9.
Donna said: “They are really excited to have been given this great opportunity, and we wish them the very best of luck for their final performance.”
Hannah joined the Pamela Logan School of Dance aged just two and has been working tirelessly at the South Bridge Street studio to perfect her routine.
Pamela added: “I’m amazed. It’s a great achievement for Hannah to be chosen and I’m absolutely delighted to be supporting her.”
As part of her fundraising efforts, the St Margaret’s High pupil raised £100 for the appeal through a recent event at Strathclyde Country Park, and plans to raffle gift hampers in the coming weeks.
