Plans to develop
Eight new Monklands sites have been added to North Lanarkshire’s latest housing plan of proposed developments in the next five years.
More than 300 new local homes would be created, with the largest development being 150 units at the former Columba High in Coatbridge.
Plans also include 60 homes at Airdrie’s Northburn Avenue and 30 at Dykehead Road, plus 12 in Glenmavis; and housing association properties at the former Broomknoll Church, Colston Road and Henderson Street in Airdrie, and Gartferry Road in Moodiesburn.
Now council officials have submitted the authority’s investment plan – to create more than 2300 affordable homes across the area in 2019-2024 – to the Scottish Government, who will provide potential funding of up to £135 million.
Housing convener Allan Graham: “By developing new affordable housing, we’re reducing inequalities through the provision of good- quality, energyefficient and accessible homes that meet the needs of local people.
“By producing a longterm plan, we’ll realise our vision to help people achieve their potential and be safe, healthy, included and supported.”
The latest version of the council’s housing plan also includes developments at 19 more already-approved Monklands sites, totalling more than 400 homes.
It aims to meet housing needs, including preventing homelessness and helping support older people, as well as tackling fuel poverty and regenerating communities and town centres.
