Airdrie’s top sides are given a scare from the lower leaguers

- Ian Bunting

The Airdrie and District Darts League is heating up as teams from the bottom half of the table gave their rivals from the top end a real fright during the latest fixtures.

The Bank Club, who have more than held their own so far this campaign, travelled to Airdrie to tackle Workmens A who have still to register a win.

Rab McFadyean got the home team’s confidence up with a 180, while Mick O’Brien complemented that with a 20-dart win.

But the visitors were always in the game and a 104 checkout from Andy Fagan had the teams level at the interval.

Workmens A had the pairs games at their mercy, however very poor finishing resulted in them having to settle for a share of the points.

At Calderbank, The Post continued to establish their status as main challengers to league leaders The Horseshoe with success over the Clansman.

Gary Stone is bang on form and he secured a tremendous 12-dart win, as well as an impressive 20 score.

The Barnyard continued their fine run with victory over their guests the Wilson Arms.

Robert O’Donahue threw a 180, which was matched by Stephen Carr. John Grant secured a fine 16-dart win in a game where the visitors were simply outgunned.

At the Workmens club, the B team were attempting to find some consistency during the visit of the West End Bar.

Laura Pearson continued her great form with a win over Davy Cunningham.

Pearson threw a 180 and wowed with a 19-dart win, with Cunningham responding with a 180 of his own, along with an 18-dart win.

But Pearson took the decider in 21 darts and a victory for her in her county match against Ayrshire at the weekend made it a very good week for her.

The Eagle Inn hit top gear ahead of their much-anticiated annual trip to The Malta Open.

Davie Gemmill threw a brace of 17-darters and Boll Brown a 128 checkout in their win over the Boarshead.

Due to next week’s game in Malta, the Eagle Inn’s clash with The Post is postponed.

The Horseshoe maintained their onepoint lead at the top of the table with a hard-fought success over the Swan.

Jim McGeary helped secure the win with a 21-dart victory and his teammate Derek Cunningham threw a 180 and delivered a 15-dart triumph.
