Flowers say thank you to supermum Helen

Bouquet for angel who‘never does anything for herself’

- Judith Tonner

Much- loved mum Helen Dalgleish is this week’s delighted recipient of a special bouquet in the Advertiser’s new Say It With Flowers competition.

The caring Rochsoles resident was nominated by proud daughter Claire, to show her appreciation and to put a smile on the face of her “best friend” after a difficult year in which she sadly lost her beloved aunt, Patsy Mallon.

She was surprised with the presentation of a beautiful floral arrangement, kindly provided this week by Elite Flowers of South Bridge Street in Airdrie.

Patsy, who had cerebral palsy, passed away in April at the age of 74, six months after having suffered a severe stroke.

Claire told the Advertiser: “For the past 13 years, my mum devoted her life to assisting looking after Patsy; she had a carer but my mum went over and above in addition to that and every day she went to her three or four times and would never have it any other way.

“Patsy passing away was a huge loss to our family and it’s heartbreaking; especially for my mum as for more than a decade, she’s been running to her and now nothing.

“The first Christmas without her will be hard; but my mum’s getting there day by day. I nominated her for the flowers as she needs a surprise and something to let her know how thankful we are of her – and it genuinely made her day.”

Claire, 26, told how Helen is the heart of the busy family – which includes our flowers recipient’s husband James, son and daughterinlaw James and Karen and grandson Lucas.

Helen is also a well- loved neighbour and friend who looks out for those in her community, with Claire saying: “Everybody in the street knows her – she’s forever helping everyone, giving people things from the house and chatting to make sure everything is OK.

“She helps look after an elderly neighbour who she takes to bingo every week and regularly visits to chat and ensure she isn’t lonely.

“My mum looks after my twoyear-old nephew, Lucas, every day to allow my brother and sister-inlaw to work. She runs a house, has a job, has a dog, and every single Sunday cooks for the entire family of 10 people – she could feed the 5000!

“We’re so well looked after and if anybody deserves a wee surprise it’s her – she’s an angel and never does anything for herself.”

The Advertiser has been inundated with nominations for our fabulous new competition as readers responded in their droves to share stories of their relatives, friends, colleagues and community champions who deserve the special treat.

Each week, we will be featuring one lucky recipient, telling their deserving story and capturing on camera the moment when they are surprised by a beautiful bouquet provided by one of the two fabulous florists supporting our new feature – Mr Michael’s in Coatbridge and Elite Flowers in Airdrie.

To put forward your special someone, send in your name, address, daytime phone number, the name of the person you wish to nominate and information about why you think they deserve to receive the bouquet of the week.

Details can be emailed to news@ airdrieandcoatbridgeadvertiser. co. uk or posted to Say It With Flowers competition, Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser, One Central Quay, Glasgow G3 8DA; entries should arrive by 5pm each Monday.
