“We’d been somewhere and saw a Santa day with the whole community watching Santa in his carriage filled with gifts being pulled along the streets with horses and thought this would look amazing in Townhead.

“And then our team, led by Frances Mullen, came up with something similar here and Ecilo has allowed us to make it part of his Christmas fayre.”

Mark added: “Santa, his elves and the horse and carriage leaves the church Staff and customers at Asda in Coatbridge are raising funds for Children in Need throughout this month.

The Main Street store will be hosting a variety of events including games and cake sales, as well as supporting events in the community to help the annual BBC appeal.

Asda has helped raise £19 million for Children in Need over the past 18 years of fundraising. hall at 11.15am and will ride through Townhead, covering most of the main roads and ringing a bell so people are encouraged to come out and see him.

“His sleigh ride and the Santa Day are open to anyone in Coatbridge or Airdrie to come along.

“The fayre starts at noon and two art teacher friends of ours have decorated the church hall to make it look like a magical grotto, where Santa will be handing out presents for a couple of hours.

“I cannot wait for Saturday – and I’m 48!”

As well as Santa’s visit, attractions at the “Coatbridge Santa Day” will include a market, stalls and a cafe. Entry costs £2 and people of all ages are welcome.
