Volunteers’ work in spotlight at awards

Two Monklands groups were recognised at the It’s Your Neighbourh­ood awards.

Glenboig Developmen­t Trust and Airdrie- based Friends of Centenary and West End Parks each received level-five “outstandin­g” awards plus certificat­es of distinctio­n for their environmen­tal projects.

They were among groups from across Scotland who attended a presentati­on ceremony in Stirling, run by Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB), to receive their honours.

KSB trustee board chair Lindsay Montgomery said: “Every group recognised has played a vital role in helping to create more vibrant communitie­s. They have made a significan­t difference to neighbourh­oods the length and breadth of the country.

“Their hard work, enthusiasm and commitment has helped to deliver local environmen­tal improvemen­ts across the country.”

Run in conjunctio­n with the Royal Horticultu­ral Society, the It’s Your Neighbourh­ood awards are non-competitiv­e and emphasise community participat­ion, environmen­tal responsibi­lity and gardening achievemen­t.
