Coatbridge kids reach Strictly children’s final Pupils raise funds for STV Children’s Appeal
Primary together. They joined the ADV Dance Academy in Kirkshaws four years ago.
Alexis’s mum Karen told the Advertiser: “The two of us love to watch Strictly.
“We have been looking out for whoever is dancing the waltz each week.
“Alexis is used to competing in dance competitions, but this is on a different scale.
“It’s a new experience, but she has picked up the steps so well.
“It’s beautiful to watch her and Dylan dance.”
In the lead-up to the competition Alexis and Dylan have been perfecting their waltz during rehearsals at Airdrie’s Pamela Logan School of Dance, while Lucy and Alfie practise their jive.
And an impressed Karen said: “Pamela has been such a great support to us.
“She has been brilliant with the children.”
As well as their ballroom section, the quartet will also take part in a group dance alongside other young couples on Sunday.
And in preparation for the big event, the youngsters gave residents of Crofthead House care home a sneak preview of their routines.
Afterwards Karen enthused: “It was a nice family moment. I can’t thank the other kids enough for coming along.”
Lucy’s mum, Geraldine Hughes, said of the girls: “They’re inseparable and have been friends since they started school.
“It’s such a big thing for them to get to the final. I’m so proud of Lucy and excited to see them both perform their routines.”
To combine their love of dance with fundraising, Lucy has raised over £400, with Alexis raising £100 towards her £200 target, in support of Scottish children in poverty.
