Members of the community are invited to have a bloomin’ marvellous time to help an Airdrie charity celebrate its 30th anniversary in style.

The Parkinson’s self-help group will hold its annual garden fete this Saturday, from 11am to 2pm in its base at 23-25 Wellwynd.

This year, entry to the event is free with organisers hoping for a top turnout to aid their efforts to raise funds for the charity.

Attractions on the day will include a barbecue, treasure hunt, pampering therapies, home baking and tea and coffee and stalls featuring gift and bottle tombolas, books, DVDs and CDs, as well as a “wet n’ wild” showcase especially for children.

Centre co- ordinator Ruby Armstrong said: “We hope as many people as possible turn out on Saturday to help us mark our 30th anniversary with yet another fun-filled garden fete.

“Every year we are amazed by the success of the event and the generosity of the public; and this year should be no exception.

“There will be plenty going on for people of all ages to enjoy and we’d like to issue a warm welcome to everyone to come along.”

The well- attended selfhelp group helps people with Parkinson’s disease, and their families, to “support each other to cope with the effects of the disease and the impact of it on their lives”.

Its services include a drop- in centre and respite lounge; welfare rights advice; befriending service; a carers’ support group; and on -and off-site social activities.
