MTN team voice their appreciation for cash injection boost from Asda Foundation
Monklands Talking Newspaper ( MTN) spoke very highly of a kind- hearted donation presented to them by a local supermarket.
Coatbridge Asda community champion Anne Binks and store manager Ian Nicholson handed a £1000 cheque from the Asda foundation to delighted MTN chairperson John Lennox.
John is one of many Monklands Rotarians who help provide the MTN service to blind and partially sighted people across the district.
Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands Rotary Club sponsor and support MTN, with the cash injection providing the service with new microphones and recording equipment.
A rotary club spokesperson said: “This donation to MTN is fantastic; everyone wishes to thank Asda for its kindness.”
MTN is inviting new volunteers to join their organisation, which produces audio recordings of the Advertiser at the Buchanan Street Resource Centre.
Every week, volunteers put together a 90- minute recording of local news and features from the paper, with training on offer to new members who would “help organise articles, read the paper or copy USB sticks”.
Anyone who can offer an hour or two of their time each week, or month, can visit www. monklandstn. co.uk to find out more.
Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands Rotary Club is also on the lookout for new members.
The club meets for a meal in Airdrie’s Tudor Hotel every Monday at 6.15pm.
