The golden girls enjoy a fun day

-

IAN BUNTING Monklands slimmers enjoyed a fun day out that was just the ticket.

The dynamic dieters turned out in force when Slimming World’s golden 50th birthday bus paid a visit to Glasgow.

The golden double-decker, which is touring the UK and Ireland to“celebrate and share” the weight loss organisation’s 50th anniversary year, is set to visit 59 areas by September.

As part of the events, guests were invited to watch live cookery demonstrations and sample some of Slimming World’s famous recipes.

On-board chefs served healthy dishes cooked from scratch, including pasta bolognese, easy chicken curry, sunshine salad and veggie paella, in their speciallycreated kitchen.

Anyone who stopped by also got a goody bag and of recipe cards so they could try out dishes for themselves at home.

Slimming World consultant Jennifer Stevens supports people in Coatbridge to lose weight and was part of the special team meeting members of the public.

She said:“It was great to get out and show the people of Glasgow what Slimming World is all about.

“I absolutely love what I do and it’s amazing to welcome people into my group and see them transform their whole lives before my very eyes.

“When my members lose weight – together they’ve lost over 500st since January – I see more than just a physical transformation; above all, I see their confidence bloom.

“Many go from nervous and shy new members who are very uncomfortable with the way they look, to confident, healthy and happy individuals with a new lease of life and a twinkle in their eye.

“They learn to remove feelings of guilt around food, and instead feel empowered by all the‘free food’they can enjoy on Slimming World’s healthy eating plan – food optimising.

“Here, they learn to change the way they think about food by making small changes to the way they shop, cook and eat and the weight soon falls off without them ever feeling like they are on a diet.

“Lots of people who tried the tasters on the bus said they couldn’t believe they could eat food so tasty and lose weight – we know they can!”

Jennifer added:“Members also make friends in group; they celebrate success together and are there for one another through the more challenging times.

“Many of them have so much energy as, thanks to losing weight, they get more active by walking, swimming, dancing... the list goes on!

“My Blairhill Dundyvan church hall group has really put healthy weight loss on the map in Coatbridge and I hope our golden visit to Glasgow will encourage even more people to change their lives.

“It’s never been more important for people who struggle with their weight to get the support they need to lead healthier lives – for both themselves and their children.”
