Struck partner at retail park

-

A foul- mouthed man who assaulted his partner in Coatbridge will be confined to his own home for much of the next few months.

David Hastie turned on the woman while the pair were out shopping at the town’s Faraday retail park on December 20.

Instead of an early Christmas present, Hastie, 37, shouted and swore at his stunned victim before pushing and striking her on the body.

Hamilton man Hastie admitted the offence and, following the completion of social work reports, resurfaced at Airdrie Sheriff Court for sentencing last week.

Defence lawyer Paul Nicolson told the court his client was apologetic for his behaviour and recognised the foolishness of his actions.

Passing sentence, Sheriff Morag Shankland imposed a community payback order that will see Hastie supervised for the next year.

Hastie was also tagged for the next three months, when means he will have to remain in his home from 7pm to 7am.

The sheriff added: “This [order] is a direct alternative to custody, so if you don’t do it, you can be sentenced all over again.”

Spat blood on cop and resisted arrest

An aggressive Gartsherrie man resisted arrest and spat blood on a male cop, a court heard last week.

David Smith turned on police officers when they attended an incident at his Gilmour Place home on January 19.

Smith “struggled violently” with two male constables to “avoid handcuffs being applied”.

The thoughtless 29-year-old then spat blood on one of the officers before he was later placed under arrest and taken to Coatbridge police station.

After entering a guilty plea, Smith was due to face the music at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week.

However, upon hearing that background reports on Smith were unavailable, Sheriff Morag Shankland adjourned matters until August 28 for “the reports previously called for and a restriction of liberty assessment”.

Man defied dog and driving bans

An Airdrie man who drove while disqualified and “kept a dog” when banned from doing so faces a further wait to discover his punishment for both offences.

Dominic McCauley also had no insurance when he got behind the wheel on Coatbridge’s Bank Street on February 8.

He was found to have the dog at his former home on Naylor Lane, Airdrie, on August 8 last year; at a time when McCauley was disqualified from “owning, keeping or dealing in dogs” for a period of three years.

Forty-one-year-old McCauley, who now lives on Shanks Street, entered guilty pleas to both matters at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

He was due to be sentenced last week after a deferral for social work background reports.

Defence solicitor John McGeechan revealed that the reports hadn’t been completed, though, and Sheriff Morag Shankland further deferred both cases until August 30 for “the criminal justice social work reports previously called for”.

Kicked female officer at hospital

An Airdrie woman twice obstructed police officers – kicking a female constable when one of the incidents turned physical.

Holly Allison attacked the officer at University Hospital Monklands on June 13.

Then, at the hospital and when she was taken into custody at Coatbridge police station, the belligerent 20-yearold “repeatedly shouted and swore and uttered violent threats”.

Two weeks later, Allison fell foul of the law once again when she “intentionally obstructed” police officers by giving them her wrong first name and date- of- birth when they confronted her on Airdrie’s Elm Quadrant.

Allison, from Thrashbush Quadrant, admitted both offences and a deferral was ordered for social work reports until last week.

She surfaced in Airdrie Sheriff Court for sentencing and was placed under a community payback order on both matters which will see her supervised for the next year.

Passing sentence, presiding sheriff, Morag Shankland, told Allison: “This [order] is a direct alternative to custody, so if you breach it then you can be brought back here and sentenced all over again.”
