WORKING FOR YOU Backing for ‘all efforts’ to stop no-deal Brexit

-

Parliament has returned after summer recess and Brexit is set to continue to dominate the agenda.

Boris Johnson’s government is ramping up preparations for a no-deal Brexit, despite growing evidence of the devastating impact that it will have upon our country.

We have seen through leaks of nodeal preparation documents that the government expects food and medicine shortages in Scotland.

Other organisations have also highlighted the risks posed by a no-deal Brexit with CBI Scotland estimating that there would be an annual cost of £ 14 billion to the Scottish economy.

I have always been clear in my view that a no-deal Brexit would be devastating for jobs, living standards and businesses in Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill.

I will continue to support all efforts to prevent a no-deal Brexit from happening.

Over the summer, I have been out and about meeting my constituents, listening to their concerns and priorities.

Many of them told me about their fears for the loss of free TV licences for those aged 75 and over.

I am disappointed that the government have cynically chosen to break their election promise to protect free TV licences for those aged 75 and over.

I will continue to campaign in Parliament for the government to protect the over-75s free TV licences and make representations to the BBC about the negative impact that their decision to end free licences will have on my elderly constituents.

Many of my constituents have also been keen to stress to me their opposition to the Scottish government’s decision to rule out the current Monklands Hospital site as a location for the new hospital.

I still believe that the best location for the new Monklands Hospital is the current site because of the advantages it offers such as public transport links.

It’s clear to me that the overwhelming majority of my constituents are in favour of the current site option.

Constituents can contact my office team on 01236 434 565 or email me at hugh.gaffney.mp@parliament.uk with any concerns or queries.
