St Andrew’s Hospice received a welcome £ 3300 boost thanks to a fundraising event run by North Lanarkshire provost Jean Jones.

The “sparkle, shine and dine” lassies’ lunch was attended by more than 200 people – and the proceeds were divided equally between the Airdrie charity and neighbouring Strathcarron Hospice.

New College Lanarkshire, M& Ds and council employees were among the individuals and local businesses who donated raffle prizes to help add to the total.

Louise O’Donnell, deputy head of fundraising at St Andrew’s, thanked all who contributed and said: “It was a fabulous day, which everyone enjoyed whilst us continue to make a difference to the lives of our patients and their families.”

The provost- run event was the latest boost for the hospice after it announced it had received an award from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The award, matched with funding from the South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership, will be used to fund Compassionate Lanarkshire (CLAN) for three years.

CLAN is a partnership project between St Andrew’s, Kilbryde and Strathcarron hospices which aims to “support vulnerable and isolated individuals and families in Lanarkshire affected by a life- limiting illness”.

Joy Farquharson, St Andrew’s Hospice deputy chief executive, said: “The three hospices involved in the CLAN partnership successful in our bid to secure this funding and are excited to develop and implement this project across Lanarkshire.”

Meanwhile, Nor th Lanarkshire Council is now organising a St Andrew’s celebration to raise funds for Children in Need, taking place at the Alona Hotel in Strathclyde Park on Friday, November 15.

Guests will be welcomed by a piper, enjoy a threecourse dinner and dance to the Wee Dram ceilidh band; tickets cost £40.

Provost Jones said: “It would be great to see people from across North Lanarkshire come along and lend their support to raising money for this fabulous charity.”
