TALKING POLITICS Independence alone can solve the Brexit shambles

-

Britain is not working. The House of Commons is a shambles. It has been totally incapable of delivering on Brexit.

It is dysfunctional, run by people who could not run a Sunday school picnic never mind a nation.

Scotland cannot afford to stay in the United Kingdom.

Why should we allow our country to be run by a bunch of Tory toffs we have never, and never would, vote for?

Scotland needs to have the power to do its own thing, to run our own country the way the people of Scotland want it run. We can no longer accept having policies imposed on us which we find abhorrent and are alien to our culture.

As someone who voted for Brexit, I have no regrets about doing so. But I do have total contempt for those who have made such a hash of it.

The quicker we get the chance to vote for independence again, the better.

Just think of what we could do if the Scottish Parliament had the necessary powers.

We could raise the state pension to a decent level instead of it being the lowest in Europe.

We could grow our economy at a much faster rate than under the UK and thereby improve our standard of living.

We could transform the lives of our children and provide them with a much better future.

We could get rid of Universal Credit and replace it with a humane system of social security for those who need it.

We could make Scotland one of the best places to live in the world.

We could play our part in making the world a better place instead of having to participate in illegal wars.

We could develop our own relationship with Europe.

In my opinion we should follow the example of Norway. It is part of the European Free Trade Area without being a member of the European Union.

That way it has the advantage of being in the single market and having free movement of people without having to join the Common Fisheries Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy or commit to joining the Euro.

Independence can unleash the talents and potential of the Scottish people and hereby make us a much wealthier country.

It is time we made it happen.
