Maggie’s Lanarkshire we l comed a team of int repid cyc l i s t s completing an epic challenge to raise funds for the organisation’s cancer caring centres.

A group of 70 colleagues from Sainsbury’s Bank cycled a challenging 100- mile route taking in the centre at Monklands Hospital, its sister site in Forth Valley and their Edinburgh headquarters.

The impressive group have so far raised almost £ 30,000 to help the charity provide its busy programme of free practical, emotional, financial and social support for people living with cancer and their loved ones.

Staff and volunteers at the Airdrie centre – which opened in 2014 – are also hoping for a further boost to their funds as supporters take part in next Friday’s fourth annual culture crawl event through Glasgow.

The popular six-mile sponsored walk begins at Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust in the city’s eastend, and sees walkers visit various landmarks including the People’s Palace, the National Piping Centre and Glasgow Science Centre, enjoying exclusive night- time access.

Entertainment en route includes jazz duo Let the Bird Out, plus pop-up light, art and photography exhibitions; while finishers will be rewarded with prosecco and pizza at the Hunterian Museum.

Maggie’s Lanarkshire centre head Lorrie Forsyth told the Advertiser: “Discovering our city as the sun sets and taking in its sights and cultural gems is becoming a highlight of our calendar.

“As a charity, we rely on donations to continue to develop our unique, high- quality programme of support.

“I really hope the community gets behind this event to help us support as many people as possible across Scotland who are living with cancer, as well as their family and friends – all of the money raised will help ensure we continue to provide free, professional support to all who need it.”

Being held on September 20, the Maggie’s culture crawl is sponsored by Brodies LLP; anyone wishing to participate can register at www. maggiescentres. org/ culturecrawl.

The Glasgow culture crawl is one of 14 similar events which are taking place across the UK throughout the autumn, aiming to raise a grand total of £500,000 for the charity.
