Doctor in the house to speak with Rotarians
IAN BUNTING
Monklands Rotarians were all ears as they were given an insight into a crucial medical procedure by a top specialist.
Dr Mehrdad Malekian spoke to the Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands Rotary members about cardiac catheterisation at University Hospital Hairmyres.
Dr Malekian not only described the procedure itself, but also the “historic time line of how far it has come in the past 42 years”.
Cardiac catheterisation is an invasive diagnostic procedure that provides important information about the structure and function of the heart, usually involving taking X- rays of the coronary arteries using a technique called coronary angiography or arteriography.
A spokesperson for the Rotary club said: “It was a thorough, informative talk by Dr Malekian that had our members hanging on his every word.
“The cardiac catheterisation procedure helps to save lives and it’s reassuring to know there are experts like Dr Malekian and his colleagues at University Hospital Hairmyres looking out for people’s health and wellbeing.
“The heart is a very delicate part of the body and it’s important that anyone who may have concerns over their health contacts their GP.
“One of our Rotarians, Alex Brownlie, was actually a recent recipient of cardiac catheterisation at Hairmyres and it couldn’t have went much smoother for him.”
