Summerlee musicians The B Flat Miners will be taking to the stage this weekend for their biggest show yet, telling the story of Lanarkshire’s industrial history.

The talented trio will perform to a sold-out audience at Cumbernauld Theatre on Saturday, sharing their popular musical story of mining which tells the tale of families during the coal era.

It has been written and performed by Airdrie man Donald Dawson, Glenboig resident Cait McGlinchey and their Coatbridge museum colleague Paul McMahon, who regularly delight audiences of Summerlee visitors and local community groups with their show.

Donald told the Advertiser: “This is probably our biggest event so far; we didn’t quite know what to expect but tickets have been going really well – a lot of people have mining in their history and there’s still a lot of interest there.

“The show is a journey from when mining was at its peak through to the Thatcher years and its serious decline; and there are extra characters like the rag and bone man and the ice-cream man who pop in and out and add a bit of light to it.

“It would be great if it’s completely sold out; we’ve done a version of the show in care homes and in community clubs, and it tells the story of a mum and her child and how mining affected people and communities.”

Saturday ’ s show at the Cumbernauld venue is at 7.30pm; see www.cumbernauldtheatre.co.uk/ events/the-b-flat-miners/ for more details.
