Provost’s whistlestop tour of emergency services
IAN BUNTING
North Lanarkshire’s Provost paid a visit to University Hospital Monklands as part of a whistle-stop tour to meet “emergency services heroes” across the region.
Jean Jones’ journey was during the UKwide Emergency Services Day and she spoke with doctors, nurses and paramedics at the hospital’s accident and emergency unit.
The Provost also visited firefighters at Motherwell fire station and officers at Cumbernauld police station.
The annual Emergency Services Day commemorates and celebrates the people who work in the emergency services – and their contributions to communities.
Provost Jones said afterwards: “The vital work of the emergency services is so often overlooked and these people really are unsung heroes within our communities.
“None of us wants to be calling on their help but when it is most needed, these fantastic professionals help save lives and often risk their own for the benefit of others.
“I am proud to show my support for our emergency services and to remember the bravery and commitment being carried out, often in difficult and dangerous circumstances to keep people safe.”
Emergency Services Day takes place each year to promote the work of the emergency services, educate the public, and highlight volunteering opportunities.
A commemorative flag honouring the occasion was also flown from outside council headquarters at Motherwell civic centre.
