A Chapelhall mum has been ordered to pay £1000 compensation to the owner of a car she damaged – just two weeks after she was banned from the road for three years for driving while more than four times over the alcohol limit with her three children in the vehicle.

Joanne Muldoon, 33, “scratched, pulled and kicked” a car belonging to a man on June 29 last year, before striking it with “a piece of concrete”.

She also behaved in a threatening and abusive manner by “uttering threats of violence to others”.

Muldoon, of Centre Street in her home village, admitted her destructive act and, after a deferral for social work reports, appeared for sentencing at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week.

Presiding sheriff Derek O’Carroll decided to hit Muldoon in the pocket by ordering her to pay £1000 compensation to the male owner of the damaged car.

As previously reported in the Advertiser, last month Muldoon, pictured right, was sentenced for drink-driving after putting her children’s lives in peril when she got behind the wheel while more than four times over the alcohol limit on July 27.

Following a tip- off, police witnessed Muldoon get into her Land Rover on Dunnock Place before driving a short distance with the children, aged six, four and two, in the back seat.

When stopped, she denied that she had been drinking, but a check proved she had 94mg of alcohol in a breath sample; the legal limit is 22mg.

During Muldoon’s sentencing, Sheriff David Young told her: “Clearly this is a serious matter made even more significant because you had kids in your car.

“I’m disqualifying you from driving for three years and placing you under supervision for 18 months.

“You must also carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the next three months.”
