Villages set out action plans
Four Airdrie villages will be launching action plans for their communities at a special event next week.
Residents in Caldercruix, Greengairs, Plains and Upperton have each spent six months developing their priorities for the next five years and highlighting local improvement projects which local people would like to work on.
Steering groups created tailored street surveys, held drop-in sessions and ran focus groups to prepare their plans, with the help of Community Action North Lanarkshire.
Caldercruix community council chair Marian DiNardo said:“The action plan encompasses all of the projects we’d like to see happen in the village over the next five years.”
The four plans will be launched at a“community matters”event in Gartlea community centre, taking place next Wednesday, October 9, at 6pm.
Free copies of the plans will be available on the night, while the documents can also be seen at www. communityactionlan.org; organisers say they can also be used as evidence in funding applications by community groups and organisations.
Development officer Ruth McElhinney said: “Working with these rural communities to help capture and set out their aspirations has been a really uplifting experience, and we’re looking forward to helping take forward some of the projects they identified.”
Community Action Lanarkshire is supported by LEADER, which is co-funded by the European Union and supports eligible projects in rural areas.
