Lottery money for local groups
Five Monklands organisations have hit the jackpot in the latest round of National Lottery funding awards.
CABIA, based at Hallcraig Street in Airdrie, has received £8200 from the Big Lottery Fund to refurbish a community room which will be used for group activities.
The space created by the group – whose name stands for Counselling and Benefits in Action – will also be made available to the local community.
A youth group is to be set up in Greengairs after the village’s community council received £6270 from the same fund.
It will be open to those aged four to 16, and is set to provide“a variety of trips and activities”.
Members of Chapelhall over-60s’ club will be on their travels after receiving a cheque for nearly £2900 for a series of day trips.
The funding will be used to provide transport and lunch for trips to Largs, Dumfries and Troon, providing “opportunities for members to socialise, reducing isolation”.
Coatbridge-based St Andrew’s netball club has been given nearly £1600 by Sport Scotland for new strips; while Muirhead and District seniors’forum received £1360 from the Big Lottery Fund for a day trip and high tea.
The local groups were among 10 organisations from across North Lanarkshire to benefit in the latest funding round, with 136 groups across Scotland sharing more than £950,000.
A National Lottery awards for all spokesperson said:“The groups receiving funding showcase the range of projects that can be funded through this programme and the difference that the smallest amounts of money can make.”
