Skipper Lynas isn’t looking at the L2 relegation scrap

-

Gemma said she is “so proud” of her daughter as the New Monkland Primary pupil gears up to compete at the Reykjavik Cup in Iceland in January, and the British Championships in Sheffield in May.

She told the Advertiser: “She has done an amazing job to get to this point at her age.

“To get in the squad is a huge achievement.

“She is only eight – and that is young! As far as I know she will be the youngest in the squad.

“She has achieved her original goal and now it’s her chance to show she can do it at that level.”

Captain Aron Lynas doesn’t believe that Albion Rovers will be dragged into another League Two relegation dogfight.

Following defeat to Cowdenbeath last weekend Rovers are three games without a win ahead of the clash with Elgin this weekend.

However, the skipper insists they are in a false position – sitting just three points ahead of rock bottom Stirling – and is looking towards a play-off push.

The 23-year-old says there was enough positives from the showing against the Blue Brazil to prove they will be promotion contenders.

“I felt like we did really well against Cowdenbeath,” he told the Advertiser.

“I felt like collectively we were the better team and didn’t do a lot wrong. A point was the very least we deserved.

“It’s tough to take when you go to a place like Cowdenbeath and don’t win after a performance like that, but we have positives that we can take from this.

“We should be higher than where we are at this point in the season. There are points we have dropped because of mistakes, but we have competed well against some of the best teams in this league.

“I do believe that come the end of the season we will have done well and had a good season.”

Visitors Elgin come to Cliftonhill without a win in the league since the opening day of the campaign.

Lynas says these types of ties in Coatbridge will be key if they are to mount a top four challenge.

He added: “It’s massive for us to get the win against Elgin.

“We need to build the momentum again. We started well in the Betfred Cup and got to second in the group, which was an amazing achievement for us.

“That really helped us, and maybe we just need that boost again.

“We believe we can beat anyone and Elgin are not on the best run.

“These are the types of games you have to win if you’re looking up at the top four, and it’s a good way to bounce back from two defeats.”
