Merissa enjoys big year – and title success

-

Airdrie grappler Merissa Fraser is enjoying the“busiest and best year”of her wrestling career.

The 25-year-old balances working as an IT technician with being a title-winning ring technician after winning her first English title with Upbrawl Championship Wrestling women’s champion and becoming a two-time women’s champion for World Wide Wrestling League (W3L).

She has been delighted to have have packed weekends after her nine to five job:“I have tagged with my friends, Christopher Saynt and Darrell Costello as,“The Sensational Scenebirds”for companies like Respect Pro Wrestling and Upbrawl Championship Wrestling and for getting the opportunity to wrestle my good friend, who I affectionately call my ‘wrestle-ma’, Jayla Dark in her last ever Scottish wrestling match.

“I was also able to compete in one of his biggest shows of the year, Breaking Limits 14, in the Airdrie Town Hall which made the experience even more special.

“My match included upcoming talent to break through the PBW Academy, Angel Hayze - who is taking the Scottish wrestling scene by storm - and current WWE NXT UK women’s champion and PBW graduate, Kay Lee Ray. It was a special match for so many reasons.”

Merissa feels like wrestlers and fans are “spoiled for choice”in Scotland just now with so many companies – who are also putting females at the forefront.

She told the Advertiser:“There are so many companies within Scotland, who all are amazing companies with different audiences and styles.

“With PBW, they venture all over Scotland putting on shows in places like, Greenock, Dumbarton and of course, Airdrie, with family-friendly content.

“Another surprising fact not many people know is the huge wrestling scene for women.

“In particular, there is a company based in Glasgow named, Fierce Females which caters to a more mature audience.

“The show likes to promote women empowerment and always showcases talent you would normally never get the chance to see in Scotland.”
