A generous Airdrie youngster’s brave decision to have her long locks chopped for charity was made a good bit easier by her big sister being the one to cut her hair.

Katie Walls, 11, had 14 inches of her lovely locks cut in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

And it was a relaxing experience for the St Edward’s Primary pupil as her 18-year-old sister Rachel – an apprentice hairdresser – was on hand to give her younger sibling her sensational new look.

Primary Seven youngster Katie underwent her transformation at Hair Design salon in Airdrie and, as well as delivering her shorn hair to help provide free wigs to kids and youngsters who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions, has also raised £320 for the charity.

Katie and Rachel’s proud mum Caroline said: “I am so proud of Katie and she is delighted with what she has been able to do for the Little Princess Trust.

“We are still collecting money for the charity and so far have raised more than £300.

“Katie was so brave to get as much of her hair cut off as she’s had it very long most of her life.

“It was extra special for her to get it cut by her big sister, who did a wonderful job.

“Rachel is enjoying the second year of her apprenticeship, which she carries out in the Hair Design salon.

“The shop owners and all of the staff are a very friendly bunch and really welcoming.

“Katie’s two friends from school, Ashley and Eryn, came down to surprise her and give her moral support and everyone was really proud of what she did for charity.”
