Gill all set to tread boards

-

A Gartcosh performer will be taking to the stage this Friday for the production of The Wedding Planners at Motherwell theatre.

Gill McGowan plays Mairi, who owns and runs wedding planning business I Do and aims to realise brides’dreams.

She has now been pursuing her“dream career”in acting full-time for four years, after first taking to the stage as a sixth-year school pupil and then spending 10 years performing in amateur productions.

The Gartcosh resident said of her latest show:“Both the music and the script are my favourite bits! I really love them and it’s a brilliant feel-good comedy musical.

“It’s a lovely story, really funny with so many jokes, and has some fantastic music written specifically for this show; I think people will spot characters and think,‘I know someone like that’.

“My character has always been obsessed with weddings but has been a bit unlucky in love – she’s a romantic soul but has been burned before. She’s passionate about what she does and making people happy.”

Gill’s first stage role was in Calamity Jane aged 16, which led to her joining Theatre Guild Glasgow for the next decade.

She said:“Over the years I started to get more and more paid work, and then in 2015 I decided to pursue my dream career full time; most of my work so far has been musical and children’s theatre.

“If you have a love and a passion for acting, it’s never too late – you can get into it at whatever age.”

Tickets for Friday’s show are available at culturenl.co.uk or by calling 01698 403120.
