Pupils enjoy course at Airdrie
Youngsters across Monklands have been introduced to golf thanks to the Airdrie Golf Club team.
Along with North Lanarkshire Active Schools and Sport Scotland, the club invited ten schools to send P7 pupils to Airdrie to give the game a try.
Pupils from Chapelside, Tollbrae, St Andrews, Hilltop, Rochsolloch, Calderbank, All Saints, Golfhill, Glengowan and St David’s, St Edward’s and St Serf ’s Primary schools have all taken part.
Under the expert eye of Airdrie’s Assistant Professional Andrew Thomson and Head Pro Simon McLean the youngsters had hours of fun on the course and putting green. They were also able to take advantage of the indoor video swing room when the good old Scottish weather forced everyone indoors.
Andrew said: “I have been bowled over by the enthusiasm that the kids have shown, they have been a joy to work with. I am pretty sure we have a few budding Tiger Woods and Catriona Mathews amongst the pupils”
Ian Telford, AGC gents Captain added: “Airdrie Golf Club recognises how vital it is for us to engage with the next generation of golfers.
“We are making a huge effort to grow the game and want to let kids and their parents know that golf is a wonderfully accessible game.
“We want to break down the sometimes elitist image of the game. I can certainly say that Airdrie is the most welcoming club you could find.”
